Metro rail to run on revised schedule during Ramadan
Metro rail services in Dhaka began operating under a revised schedule from Thursday to coincide with Ramadan, with authorities allowing passengers to carry a limited amount of water to break their fast.
According to a notice signed by AKM Khairul Alam, Director (Administration) of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited, passengers have been permitted to carry up to 250ml of water during Iftar time. Consumption of any other food items inside trains or on platforms remains strictly prohibited.
The revised schedule will remain in effect on working days from the first day of Ramadan until the day before Eid-ul-Fitr, in line with government office hours.
Under the new timetable, the first train from Uttara North to Motijheel will depart at 6:30am, with the last train at 9:30pm. From Motijheel to Uttara North, the first train will leave at 7:15am and the last at 10:10pm.
Authorities have requested passengers to ensure that water is not spilled inside the trains or on platforms. Used bottles must be disposed of in designated bins placed at platforms, concourses and entry and exit points.
The schedule for Fridays, Saturdays and public holidays will remain unchanged.
Train frequency will vary throughout the day, ranging from five and a half to 20 minutes depending on passenger demand and peak hours, the authorities said.
