Mild earthquake jolts Southwestern Bangladesh
A mild earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale was felt in southwestern Bangladesh early Tuesday morning (February 3).
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), the tremor occurred at 4:36:46am. The earthquake has been classified as “light.”
A notification signed by Assistant Meteorologist Farzana Sultana said the epicentre of the earthquake was located at Kalaroa in Satkhira district. The epicentre lies about 175 kilometres southwest of the Earthquake Observation and Research Centre in Dhaka.
Data from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) indicated that the earthquake originated at a depth of 150 kilometres beneath the surface, with the epicentre located approximately 16 kilometres northwest of Satkhira.
No immediate reports of casualties or damage were available.
