Milestone school and college assistant succumbs to burns, death toll reaches 35
The office assistant of Milestone School and College, Masuma (32), who was injured in the tragic aircraft crash in capital's Uttara, has succumbed to her injuries. She passed away on Saturday morning (July 26) at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute, where she had been receiving treatment.
Earlier, on Friday afternoon, a 13-year-old student named Makin passed away at the same hospital. On Saturday morning, another student, Jarif Farhan, also tragically lost his life. With these recent deaths, the total fatalities from the tragic incident have now increased to 35.
According to the health department, at least 51 people are still receiving treatment in various hospitals.
Following the crash, Milestone School and College issued a statement on Thursday evening, confirming the death of 20 students, 2 teachers, and 2 guardians in the accident.
On Monday afternoon, a military training aircraft lost control and crashed into the Milestone School building in the Diabari area. The crash sparked a fire, causing many to suffer burns and injuries. Among those affected were students, teachers, and staff members present in the classrooms.
In response to the tragedy, the government declared a national day of mourning on Tuesday. On that day, the national flag was flown at half-mast at all government, semi-government, and autonomous institutions, as well as at Bangladesh's foreign missions. Special prayers were also organized at religious places across the country for the victims and the injured.
