Mirza Abbas to take helm of Housing and Public Works Ministry
BNP Standing Committee member and Dhaka-8 MP Mirza Abbas is set to take charge of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works in the new government.
Mirza Abbas previously served as Minister for Housing and Public Works from October 2001 to October 2006 after being elected to the Eighth National Parliament from Dhaka-6.
Earlier, newly elected MPs of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) were sworn in on Tuesday (February 17) at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin administered the oath, beginning with BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman and other party lawmakers, who later signed the oath register.
The remaining MPs from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, independent candidates and other parties are being sworn in in phases. Members of the new cabinet are scheduled to take oath at 4pm at the South Plaza of the National Parliament.
According to unofficial results of the 13th parliamentary elections, BNP secured 209 of the 297 declared seats, while Jamaat-e-Islami won 68. The National Citizen Party (NCP) secured six seats and independent candidates won seven.
