Mirza Fakhrul leaves for China tonight, PM's economic adviser to follow on Monday
BNP Secretary General and Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, along with Prime Minister's Economic and Planning Adviser Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, are set to undertake separate official visits to China in a significant political and diplomatic context.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is scheduled to depart for Beijing on Sunday night. The Prime Minister's Adviser, Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, will leave for China the following day to attend an international conference.
At the invitation of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC), a 19-member high-level delegation of the BNP is currently visiting the country. As the head of that delegation, Mirza Fakhrul will join them in Beijing.
During the visit, an official meeting is expected between the delegation and Liu Haixing, head of the CPC Central Committee's International Department.
These visits are seen as significant given the current geopolitical realities. Observers believe important discussions regarding Bangladesh-China bilateral relations, political solidarity and global development initiatives may take place.
A government official said China is keen to increase communication with the new government. This marks the BNP's first political visit to China since the party formed the government. Beyond strengthening political ties, the visit is also important in the context of regional geopolitics.
He further said the Prime Minister's adviser's visit following Mirza Fakhrul will add a new dimension to bilateral relations. He also indicated that several more high-level visits may take place in the future.
