Mirza Fakhrul made new Local Government Minister

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been given the charges of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives.

He took oath at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban at 4 pm on Tuesday (February 17). President Md. Shahabuddin administered the oath to him.

Mirza Fakhrul was elected from Thakurgaon-1 in the 13th National Parliament elections by getting 238,836 votes.

During the 2001-2006 term of the BNP government, he served as the Minister of State for the Ministry of Agriculture and later the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism.

He earned a bachelor's (honors) and master's degree from the Department of Economics of Dhaka University. Before becoming active in politics, he was engaged in the teaching profession.

During his student life, he started with leftist student politics (Student Union). Later, he joined Bhasani NAP. He joined BNP in the 1980s. After holding various important positions in the party, he has been serving as the acting secretary general since 2011 and as the secretary general since 2016.
