Mirza Fakhrul to take charge of Local Government
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is set to assume charge of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives in the new government.
Fakhrul, elected from Thakurgaon-1 in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad polls, took oath as an MP on Tuesday (February 17) at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin administered the oath to the newly elected lawmakers.
Earlier, Fakhrul served as State Minister for Agriculture and later as State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism during the Eighth Parliament.
BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman and other BNP MPs were sworn in first, followed by members elected from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and independent candidates.
The new cabinet members are scheduled to take oath at 4pm today at the South Plaza of the National Parliament.
