Misinformation being spread against BNP over July Charter Mirza Fakhrul
Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has alleged that the opposition party Awami League is speaking their language and that misinformation is being spread against BNP over the implementation of the July Charter.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at a discussion meeting organised by the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) at the National Press Club on Monday (August 3) to mark the second anniversary of the July uprising.
Mirza Fakhrul said the campaign being run against BNP over the implementation of the July Charter is completely false. BNP is committed to implementing the promises made in the July Charter and work has already begun in this regard through the formation of relevant committees in parliament.
He said the government has been in office for a short period. Therefore, all changes cannot be made at once. However, the government is working to implement every commitment made in the July Declaration.
On the issue of referendum and constitutional reform, Mirza Fakhrul said although there are differences of opinion on some issues, they should be resolved through discussions in parliament. He called on all political parties to participate in the discussions.
Urging the opposition parties to play a positive role, the BNP secretary general said the government wants to move forward with everyone to tackle the political crisis and implement the July Charter. For this, the government must be given the necessary time and opportunity to implement its pledged work.
The event was attended by BFUJ President Obaidur Rahman Shahin, General Secretary Kader Gani Chowdhury, National Press Club President Hasan Hafiz, Chief Information Officer Syed Abdal Ahmed, and other journalist leaders.
