Misti's resignation effective immediately: Speaker

National Parliament Speaker Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed has said he has received the resignation letter of BNP MP Ferdousi Ahmed Misti from a reserved women's seat.

He said her resignation became effective as soon as the letter was received, as per the Constitution's provisions. The Speaker also said the resignation letter will be sent to the Election Commission.

Speaker Hafiz said these at an urgent press conference in the National Parliament tunnel on Thursday, October 1.

Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed said, "MP Ferdousi Ahmed Misti of reserved women's seat no. 23 came to my office and left a letter in writing. As per the Constitution's provisions, her post became vacant as soon as the letter was received. We will send it to the Election Commission. This resignation will be effective from today."

In response to journalists' questions on whether a reason for the resignation was mentioned, the Speaker said, "The rule of parliament is that when an MP resigns, they do not mention any reason."
