A Dhaka court granted a six-day remand for domestic worker Ayesha and a three-day remand for her husband, Rabbi Shikdar, in the murder of Laila Firoz and her daughter.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Alam passed the order on Thursday (December 11), following a hearing.

The investigation officer sought 10-day remands for both suspects, supported by the Prosecutor Harun-Or-Rashid, while no defense lawyer attended the hearing.

Ayesha was arrested from Jhalokathi. She was taken into custody during an early morning operation on Wednesday.

According to the police, Ayesha had started working part-time at the victims’ residence from December 5. On the day of the incident, Laila’s husband, AZM Azizul Islam, left for work around 7am and after failing to reach his wife, returned at 11am to find her dead and his daughter critically injured. She was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared her dead.

CCTV footage shows Ayesha entering the house at 7:51am and leaving at 9:35am with valuables,
including the child’s mobile, a laptop, gold jewelry, and cash.

Police alleged the killings occurred during this period using a sharp weapon.
