Move to undermine women’s rights over HC verdict unacceptable: Mahila Parishad
Bangladesh Mahila Parishad has issued a statement in response to a High Court Division verdict concerning the requirement of arbitration council permission for a second marriage.
In a statement signed on Monday by the organisation’s president Dr Fauzia Moslem and general secretary Maleka Banu, it said various anti-women and rights-curbing campaigns have recently been observed. The organisation said any attempt to undermine women’s human rights using a High Court verdict is unacceptable.
The statement also said a gender-sensitive role from the judiciary is expected to protect women’s rights and dignity.
Bangladesh Mahila Parishad said it remains committed to ensuring women’s dignity and respect, and demanded necessary steps to establish women’s human rights, change social attitudes, and eliminate social, cultural and legal discrimination.
