MPO teachers holds mass rally demanding nationalisation
The alliance for nationalisation of MOP-listed education are staging a large-scale rally in front of the National Press Club on Wednesday, demanding full nationalisation of MPO-listed institutions and the immediate release of promised benefits. Following the rally, the teachers plan to march towards the Secretariat.
The rally began at around 10 a.m. on Wednesday, with hundreds of teachers participating. Educators from across the country have gathered in Dhaka to press for their demands, which include nationalization, 100% festival allowance, 45% house rent allowance, medical allowance, and entertainment allowance.
In response to the rally, security has been significantly heightened in the area. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed a ban on all forms of assemblies, meetings, processions, sit-ins, strikes, and rallies in sensitive locations including the official residence of the Chief Justice, Judges’ Complex, Bangladesh Supreme Court gates, International Crimes Tribunal entrances, and the Judicial Administration Training Institute premises. The ban will remain in place from August 13 until further notice.
Additionally, the DMP has urged all parties involved to avoid obstructing roads or disrupting traffic under the pretext of protests or demonstrations.
