MPs' defaulted loans stand at Tk 3,330 crore: Finance Minister
The total amount of loans taken from banks and financial institutions by current members of parliament and their affiliated entities has reached Tk 11,117.31 crore, of which Tk 3,330.08 crore is in default.
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury disclosed the information during the question-answer session of the 13th National Parliament's first session on Monday, April 6. The session was chaired by Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal.
Responding to a written question from Cumilla-4 MP Md Abul Hasnat, the finance minister said the total outstanding loans taken by MPs and various entities owned by them from banks and finance companies across the country have reached this amount.
He further said a significant portion of the total loans is now in default. However, some defaulted loans may be shown as regular due to court orders or stays, which remained outside the default list due to legal proceedings.
