MPs' remuneration and allowances amendment bill passed in parliament

The Members of Parliament (Remuneration and Allowances) (Amendment) Bill, 2026, was passed in the Jatiya Sangsad on Sunday, April 26. The bill was approved by voice vote during the parliamentary session.

The session was chaired by Speaker Major (Retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed. The bill was tabled by Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman.

While tabling the bill, the minister said the amendment has been introduced to make the existing remuneration and allowance structure more modern and time-befitting.

He requested the House to consider and approve the bill expeditiously. The bill was subsequently passed by voice vote of the members present.

According to parliamentary sources, the amendment brings some changes to the structure of MPs' remuneration, various allowances, and benefits.

Those concerned said the changes have been made to simplify administrative processes and ensure a supportive environment for MPs to perform their duties.

Members present during the bill's passage described the process as procedural and important. The amendment is also seen as part of the ongoing process of updating necessary laws while maintaining continuity in parliament's functions.

With the passage of the bill, a step towards updating the existing law concerning the financial and administrative benefits of MPs has been completed, according to those concerned.
