MPs to get housing allocation by April 10: Chief Whip
Housing allocation for members of the 13th National Parliament will be made by April 10, government Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni has said.
Speaking to journalists after the first meeting of the Parliamentary Committee held at the Parliament building on Saturday, March 28, he said efforts are being made to bring most MPs under housing facilities. Separate residences are available for ministers, state ministers, the Speaker, Chief Whip and whips, while necessary arrangements will also be made for other members.
He further said the target has been set to allocate houses by April 10 to expedite the procurement of necessary furniture and other items for MPs. The committee will meet again on March 30 to review progress.
The issue of the sound system malfunction during the first day's parliamentary session was also discussed at the meeting. Proceedings had to be temporarily adjourned on March 12 due to the disruption. The following day, MP Shahjahan Chowdhury also expressed dissatisfaction over the headphone and sound system.
The Chief Whip said a committee led by the Sergeant-at-Arms has been formed to investigate the incident, and the possibility of sabotage is being examined. Additionally, experts from BUET are being consulted to address technical problems with the sound system.
He also said improvements will be made to the headphone system, as MPs are facing difficulties with the current setup.
It is to be noted that an 11-member Parliamentary Committee was formed on March 12, the inaugural day of parliament, with Nurul Islam Moni as its president. The committee's primary responsibilities include ensuring facilities for MPs and overseeing the internal management of the Parliament building.
