Nagorik Coalition has welcomed the upcoming dialogue in London on June 13 between Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus and BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman aimed at resolving the country’s ongoing political crisis. Simultaneously, the coalition has urged all parties to reach a unanimous agreement on constitutional reforms and the election date.

In a statement sent to the media on Wednesday night (June 11), Nagorik Coalition expressed this appeal.

Nagorik Coalition said that at this critical moment for the country, Chief Adviser Professor Yunus has taken an important step by announcing a possible date for the national election in the first half of April 2026. However, doubts remain among the public about the feasibility of holding the election at that time, the necessary reforms, and how preparations will be completed before the election, as there is still no clarity on these issues.

The statement also said that by rejecting the April election announcement, BNP and some other political parties are insisting on holding elections in December, which is worsening the political deadlock. In this context, Nagorik Coalition sees the June 13 London dialogue as a very promising initiative.

Nagorik Coalition believes that now is the right time to reassert the seven demands including constitutional reform, ensuring neutral appointments to constitutional positions, restoring the caretaker government, and holding direct elections for women’s seats—based on the February call for election-time consensus and the ‘July Charter’.

Nagorik Coalition further urged Dr Yunus and BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman to include the proposed election roadmap for early February, and to accept August 30 as the final deadline to build a unanimous political consensus on the ‘July Charter’ and political reforms as key agenda items for the June 13 dialogue.

The statement also warned that if the crisis is not resolved peacefully through compromise, the situation will become more complicated, which would be harmful to the country, its people, and democracy. For this reason, all political parties are urged to act responsibly and join the discussion table.
