Naming new individuals in Ramisa murder case may be tactic to delay trial: DMP Commissioner
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed has said attempts by the accused in the Ramisa rape and murder case to implicate new individuals appear to be a strategy aimed at delaying the judicial process.
Speaking at a press briefing held at the DMP Media Centre on Thursday (June 4), the DMP commissioner said investigators found no evidence linking anyone beyond those already named in the charge sheet.
“The accused in the Ramisa rape and murder case has tried to mention or implicate other individuals. Our assessment is that this may be a tactic to prolong the trial process,” he told reporters.
He added that law enforcement agencies thoroughly investigated the case before submitting the charge sheet and found no indication of involvement by any person outside the charge-sheeted accused.
According to the DMP commissioner, police completed the investigation on a priority basis and submitted the charge sheet to ensure a speedy trial. He also stressed that law enforcement authorities remain vigilant to ensure the judicial process proceeds transparently and without obstruction.
The remarks came during a briefing on the capital’s overall law and order situation, security arrangements ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, and ongoing anti-crime operations.
The high-profile case involving the rape and murder of eight-year-old Ramisa in Dhaka’s Pallabi area has drawn widespread public attention, with the trial process currently underway.
