Nation awaits Hasina’s verdict: Mirza Fakhrul
The verdict in the crimes against humanity case against Sheikh Hasina and two others will be delivered today at the International Crimes Tribunal. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said the entire nation is waiting for the verdict.
In a Facebook post on Monday, November 17, the BNP Secretary General wrote, “Within a few hours in Dhaka, the verdict in the case against Sheikh Hasina will be announced. I hope a fair trial consistent with international standards will be ensured. The nation is waiting!”
The verdict in the case against Sheikh Hasina and two others will be broadcast live by Bangladesh Television (BTV) and all media outlets in the country. International news agency Reuters will also broadcast the proceedings. Large screens have been set up at key points across Dhaka for public viewing.
From early this morning, BTV’s special live broadcast team has taken position at the tribunal. After 8am, the live team reached the tribunal gate and began preparations. Local and foreign journalists have already gathered outside the main entrance of the court.
According to court sources, after 11am, the three-member judicial panel of Tribunal-1, headed by Chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumder, will deliver the verdict. The other two members of the panel are Justice Md Shafiul Alam Mahmood and Justice Md Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.
