National Awards Committee reconstituted, Abdul Moeen Khan to lead

The government has reconstituted the 10-member 'Cabinet Committee on National Awards' to make the national award conferment process more effective. Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Dr Abdul Moeen Khan has been made the committee's chairman.

The information was conveyed through a gazette notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Thursday, August 27.

The new committee includes Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury, Industries, Textiles and Jute and Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, Information and Broadcasting Minister Andaliv Rahman, Water Resources Minister Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie, Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu, State Minister for Shipping and Bridges Division Md Rajib Ahsan, and State Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Md Nurul Haque Nur as members. The concerned minister from the relevant ministry will also remain a member of the committee.

The committee's primary responsibility will be to review and make recommendations on proposals for national awards received from various ministries. Additionally, the committee will make recommendations on conferring national awards, the necessity of new awards, and related plans.

A nine-member secretariat, led by the Cabinet Secretary, has been formed to assist the committee in its work. The new order has been implemented immediately, revoking the previous notification issued before February 25, 2026.
