National moon sighting committee to meet this evening

The National Moon Sighting Committee will hold a crucial meeting this evening to determine the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah moon, marking preparations for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha celebrations.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs confirmed the development in a statement issued on Monday (May 18).

According to the press release signed by ministry public relations officer Md. Abu Bakar Siddique, the meeting will be held at 6:45pm at the Islamic Foundation conference room in Baitul Mukarram, Dhaka.

The meeting will be chaired by Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad. Senior government officials, Islamic scholars, and members of the national moon sighting committee are expected to attend.

The committee will review reports on the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah moon and announce the official decision regarding the start of the month. Based on the outcome, the probable date of Eid-ul-Azha in the country will be determined.
