National University going paperless and cashless by 2027

An initiative has been taken to make National University completely paperless and cashless through digital automation. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr ASM Amanullah has said the university aims to bring all its activities under a digital system by 2027.

He said this in his remarks as chair at the National University Scholarship and Vice-Chancellor Award ceremony at the International Mother Language Institute auditorium in the capital on Tuesday, September 15.

The Vice-Chancellor said the National University campus has already been made cashless. Although cash is still used in some cases, that too will be stopped completely within the next few days. Through this, a fully cashless system will be built at the university.

He said a target has been set to turn National University into a paperless university by 2027. Alongside conducting all university activities online, necessary information will be preserved digitally. As a result, there will be no need for any kind of printout.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, a huge amount of paper is used and wasted every day in various university activities. If the institution moves fully to a digital system, it will be possible to reduce paper use as well as carbon emissions.

He also highlighted the progress of digital automation in the examination system. He said if an examination starts at 10am, information on how many students took part and how many were absent can be obtained within 10:15am.

He said nearly 40 lakh students have been examined since the current administration took charge, including 16 lakh students who took examinations in the past seven months alone.

The Vice-Chancellor said National University is also moving ahead in publishing examination results as quickly as possible. A delegation from the Oxford Assessment Authority will visit National University on October 1 to review its examination system. He said if this system can be implemented, it will be possible to publish the results of any public examination within two weeks.

Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon was present as chief guest at the event. Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education Abdul Khalek was present as special guest. Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Lutfor Rahman, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Treasurer Professor Dr Md Nazmul Hossain and officials from various levels of the university were also present.
