Nazrul’s words give people courage to stand against oppression: Rizvi

BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said the poetry, literature and words of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam continue to inspire people to resist injustice, oppression and persecution.

Rizvi made the remarks after paying tribute to the poet at his grave beside Dhaka University Central Mosque on Thursday morning (August 27), marking the 50th anniversary of Nazrul’s death.

He said Nazrul’s works had inspired people throughout the country’s democratic struggles, from the movement for independence to the mass uprising of 2024.

“Whenever there is a conspiracy against the country’s sovereignty or people face oppression and persecution, Nazrul’s words give them the courage to stand against it,” Rizvi said.

He described Nazrul’s writings as a source of strength in the fight against injustice and prayed for the salvation of the poet’s soul.

Rizvi also stressed the need for renewed study and practice of Nazrul’s literature and philosophy.

“Work and study on the literature and philosophy of a towering talent like Nazrul have begun again in the country,” he said, adding that the poet’s writings make people fearless and encourage them to move forward by standing against injustice.

BNP leaders, including its assistant cultural affairs secretary Sayeed Sohrab, health affairs secretary Rafiqul Islam, Jatiotabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (JSSS) convener Helal Khan and member secretary Zakir Hossain Rokon, were present during the tribute.
