NBR's intelligence wing gets first woman director general
The National Board of Revenue's (NBR) Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) is set to have a woman at the helm for the first time, with tax official Selina Sultana appointed as its director general.
The appointment came as the NBR reshuffled 22 tax commissioners and gave 12 additional tax commissioners the current charge of tax commissioner at various tax zones and units in a series of orders issued on Thursday (August 20).
Before the new appointment, Sultana was serving as commissioner of Tax Zone-4 in Dhaka. She will now take charge of the CIC, one of the NBR's key intelligence and investigation units.
The current CIC Director General Mohammad Abdur Rakib has been transferred to Tax Zone-8 in Dhaka as commissioner.
The latest orders also brought changes to several other important tax zones. The appointment of 12 additional commissioners to the current charge of tax commissioner is expected to bring significant changes to the field-level revenue administration.
The CIC plays a key role in gathering intelligence and conducting investigations into tax evasion, undisclosed assets and other revenue-related irregularities.
Sultana's appointment as the first woman to lead the NBR's central intelligence unit marks a notable development in women's leadership within the country's revenue administration.
