NCP Central Election Management Committee Secretary and Joint Convener Monira Sharmin said that candidates have been finalised in 27 seats and the remaining three will be announced very soon.
Earlier on Thursday night, 10 political parties, including Jamaat-e-Islami and NCP, announced a seat-sharing agreement for 253 parliamentary constituencies at a press conference held at the Institution of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh in Kakrail, Dhaka.
Although Islami Andolan Bangladesh was initially expected to be part of the alliance, the party eventually opted to contest independently in 268 seats, stating it would support other parties in the remaining 32 seats.
Under the agreement, NCP is contesting in 30 seats, despite submitting nomination papers for 47 candidates. Following Islami Andolan’s withdrawal from the alliance, NCP has begun discussions with Jamaat-e-Islami to increase its number of seats.
NCP sources said Jamaat is waiting for Islami Andolan’s final position, meaning it will take some more time to determine whether NCP’s seat count will ultimately increase.
