NCP announces mayoral candidates in 5 city corporations
The National Citizen Party (NCP) has announced its mayoral candidates for five city corporations ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
The announcement was made on Sunday night (March 29) at a press conference held at the party’s central office in Bangla Motor, Dhaka, by Convener Nahid Islam.
The party also called for the completion of all tiers of local government elections within the shortest possible time.
The nominated candidates are:
Dhaka North City Corporation: Ariful Islam Adib (Senior Joint Convener, NCP)
Dhaka South City Corporation: Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan (Spokesperson, NCP)
Rajshahi City Corporation: Md. Mobashwer Ali (Convener, Rajshahi Metropolitan NCP)
Sylhet City Corporation: Advocate Abdur Rahman Afzal (Convener, Sylhet Metropolitan NCP)
Cumilla City Corporation: Advocate Tarikul Islam (Convener, Jatiya Juboshokti)
At the press conference, NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain said completing local elections within the next six months is essential to maintain democratic continuity and ensure effective local governance.
Party leaders said qualified grassroots leaders were nominated to build corruption-free cities and ensure direct public participation. They also aim to demonstrate the party’s organizational strength through the elections.
Akhtar Hossain further stated that Awami League and its allies would not be allowed to participate in the local government elections.
