NCP bearing blame for interim government’s failures: Hasnat Abdullah
Hasnat Abdullah, chief organiser (South) of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has alleged that his party is being forced to take responsibility for all failures and limitations of the interim government, even though BNP and other parties are also part of it. He further alleged that Bangladeshi politics has now been taken "hostage" by business interests.
He made the remarks on Saturday (September 20) at the third edition of the 'Tarunner Rashtrachinta' (Youth's State of Thought) dialogue held at the Diploma Engineers Institute in Kakrail, Dhaka.
Hasnat said people expect something new from the NCP.
He further claimed that a section of the media and the military were working against Bangladesh, and that his party was fighting them, almost alone. “We are speaking eye to eye with the media. We are calling truth the truth, and lies the lies,” he added.
He alleged that an attempt is being made to assassinate the character of NCP leaders through "media trials."
He also objected to the media coverage of his meeting with former US ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas in Cox’s Bazar on 5 August. “We are not against the media, but we want objectivity in the media,” Hasnat said.
Criticising the dominance of business interests in politics, he added, “Politics must remain in the hands of politicians.”
Claiming that the NCP’s achievements are not insignificant, he said, “We have our limitations, and we review them. We can admit our mistakes. You will give us suggestions, we will correct ourselves and continue pro-Bangladesh politics.”
