NCP calls nationwide protests over attack in Habiganj

The National Citizen Party (NCP) has announced countrywide protest rallies and demonstrations on Wednesday (July 29) in response to an attack on its leaders and motorcade during a party programme in Habiganj.

The announcement came through a press release issued by the party’s office cell on Tuesday (July 28).

According to the statement, NCP alleged that leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) attacked the motorcade of the party’s Chief Organiser Sarjis Alam and Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary during a peaceful “July March” programme in Habiganj.

Condemning the incident, the party decided to launch coordinated protest programmes across the country.

NCP has instructed its units in all metropolitan cities, districts, upazilas and police station areas to organise protest rallies and demonstrations in their respective localities.

Organisational units have also been asked to ensure disciplined and peaceful implementation of the programmes, alongside strong participation by party activists.

The alleged attack took place on Tuesday evening near the Habiganj Town Hall after the conclusion of the party’s “July March” programme.

NCP leaders claimed that several activists were injured in the incident and accused local BNP leaders and supporters of carrying out the attack.

No official response from BNP regarding the allegations was immediately available.

The incident has heightened political tensions, with NCP framing the issue as an attack on democratic political activities and calling for nationwide protests in solidarity with its injured activists.
