NCP leader Sadia Akter accused of family card fraud temporarily removed

Sadia Akter, organising secretary of the National Citizen Party's (NCP) Netrokona district committee, accused in a fraud case for allegedly taking money in exchange for family cards, has been temporarily relieved of her party post.

The information was conveyed in a notice signed by Sadia Farzana Dina, a member of the NCP Central Convener Committee's office cell, on Wednesday afternoon. NCP Netrokona district committee member secretary Fahim Rahman Khan Pathan confirmed the matter on Thursday noon.

The notice stated that on the instructions of Central Convener Nahid Islam and Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, Sadia Akter has been temporarily relieved of her duties as organising secretary of the Netrokona District Convener Committee over allegations of serious organisational disciplinary violations.

At the same time, she has been asked to submit a written self-defence, necessary information, evidence and explanation as to why further organisational action should not be taken against her under the party's constitution and disciplinary rules. These must be submitted to NCP Central Chief Organiser (Northern Region) Sarjis Alam within three working days of receiving the notice.

Earlier, on September 8, locals detained Sadia from the Kurpar area of Netrokona town and handed her over to police following allegations that she had taken money from several people in exchange for family cards. Later, victim Priya Akter filed a fraud case against her with Netrokona Police Station.

Sadia was shown arrested in the case and produced before a court, which ordered her sent to jail on September 9. She was released on bail on Wednesday.
