NCP leader Salahuddin Tanvir suspended over offensive post on PM

Gazi Salahuddin Tanvir has been temporarily relieved of his post as joint member secretary of the National Citizen Party's central committee over offensive comments made about Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. The party has also issued a show-cause notice to him.

A notification signed by NCP Office Cell member Sadia Farzana Dinar on Friday (July 31) confirmed the matter.

The notification stated that he was seen making comments that constituted a serious breach of organisational discipline and tarnished the party's image on social media. Considering the gravity of the matter, he was immediately relieved of organisational responsibilities on the instructions of central convener Md Nahid Islam and member secretary Akhtar Hossain.

The notification also directed him to submit a written explanation, along with necessary evidence and clarification, to the central disciplinary committee within two working days of receiving the notice, explaining why further organisational action should not be taken against him.

Referring to attacks and obstruction of NCP's march in three districts of Sylhet division, including Habiganj, Salahuddin Tanvir made an offensive post about the Prime Minister on Facebook yesterday, alleging the involvement of Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal leaders. He later removed the post following criticism, but screenshots spread rapidly.

This is the second time the NCP leader has been relieved of his post. He was previously relieved over allegations of interference in deputy commissioner appointments and commission trading following the July mass uprising.
