The National Citizen Party (NCP) has decided to contest the upcoming local government elections independently, without being part of any alliance. The information was shared by the party's Chief Organiser (Northern Region) Sarjis Alam after a coordination meeting at the party office on Thursday, September 3.

He said preparations are underway to field NCP-backed candidates in every union and ward across the country for the local government elections. Party organisational activities have been intensified to achieve this goal.

Sarjis Alam said the work to strengthen the party organisation at the grassroots level is being expedited ahead of the local elections. Election preparations are being accelerated by activating leaders and workers at the union and ward levels.

He said the NCP plans to form convening committees in all unions across the country by November. Candidates have already been announced for 100 upazilas and municipalities. He further said names of candidates for another 100 upazilas and municipalities will be announced within September. Candidates for five city corporations have already been finalised, and names for the remaining city corporations will also be announced by September.

The party is simultaneously focusing on organisation building, candidate selection and grassroots-level preparations for the local government elections.
