NEC meeting begins under PM Tarique Rahman’s leadership

The meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC), chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, began in Dhaka.

The meeting started at 10:00am at the Planning Commission auditorium in Agargaon on Monday morning (May 18), according to the Prime Minister’s Press Wing.

Officials said the meeting is expected to discuss and finalise the Annual Development Programme (ADP) for the 2026–27 fiscal year. The proposed development budget may receive formal approval during the session.

The agenda also includes the presentation and approval of a five-year economic strategy document titled “Strategic Framework for Reform and Development (FY2026–2030).”

Several cabinet members and senior officials attended the meeting, including Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmood Tuku, Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee, and Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan.
