New boards formed for Hindu, Christian and Buddhist welfare trusts

The Ministry of Religious Affairs has formed new trustee boards for the Hindu, Christian and Buddhist religious welfare trusts. Separate notifications were issued on September 2 regarding the formation of these boards.

The Minister for Religious Affairs has become the chairman of the three trusts by virtue of his office.

According to the notification on the Hindu Religious Welfare Trust, Nipun Roy Chowdhury and Subarna Sikder have been made senior vice chairpersons. The secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs will be a member.

Tapan Chandra Majumder has been made member and vice chairman. Jaydeb Roy Joy, Dulal Biswas, Biplab Kumar De, Narayan Chandra Sarkar, Rajib Dhar Tamal, Partha Pal Chowdhury, Dolon Dhar, Joni Deb, Monoranjan Singha, Swapan Kumar Bhattacharya, Tapasi Dutta, Shubhra Shankar Prasad, Monti Rani Sarkar, Swapan Kumar Das, Satyananda Dutta, Rupak Singha, Sanjoy Gupta, Montu Chandra Boidya, Sudip Ranjan Sen and Atin Dutta Chowdhury have been appointed as members.

Anna Minj and Madhabi Marma have been made senior vice chairpersons of the Christian Religious Welfare Trust board. The ministry secretary will be a member.

John Gomes has been made member and vice chairman. Pius Costa, Quinten Ribero, Mrigen Hagidok, Pastor Anwar Hossain, Rita Rosline Costa, Narendranath Tudu and Jackson Purification have been appointed as members.

For the Buddhist Religious Welfare Trust board, Saching Pru and Dipen Dewan have been made senior vice chairpersons. The ministry secretary will be a member.

Professor Dr Sukomal Barua has been made member and vice chairman. Sushil Chandra Barua, Masathwai Marma, Bir Muktijoddha Mongsaihla Chowdhury, Subhash Chandra Chakma, Partha Protim Barua (Apu), Mong Hla Ching and Ming Somau have been appointed as members.

All three notifications stated that the term of all trustees, except those appointed by virtue of their office, will be three years from the date of the notification. However, even after three years, they will continue to serve until the government appoints new trustees.

The notifications also stated that the government may, if necessary, change or declare vacant the position of any trustee or trustees, except those appointed by virtue of their office, at any time.
