Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said his government aims to change the destiny of the country's people through the implementation of the new budget. He made the remarks as the chief guest at a public rally organised by Chakaria upazila and municipality BNP at Chakaria Municipal Bus Terminal in Cox's Bazar on Saturday evening, June 13.

"When I boarded the plane from Dhaka this morning, I looked at the newspapers to see what news there was. I saw that most newspapers reported that every year after the budget is presented, the prices of various goods would increase. But Alhamdulillah, by the grace of Allah, after the budget was presented the day before yesterday, for the first time, prices of no goods have increased," he said.

"Our work is to change the destiny of the people of this country," Tarique Rahman added.

"We will upgrade all upazila health complexes across the country to 100 beds so that people in rural Bangladesh do not have to travel far for treatment," the prime minister said.

"Today I want to say anew: We will work, we will build the country. A Bangladesh for all," he added.

Earlier in the day, the prime minister and his wife Zubaida Rahman travelled to Cox's Bazar by air. He inaugurated the re-excavation of Patili Khal in PMKhali union and attended a gathering there.

He later visited Dulhazara Safari Park and inaugurated the nationwide 25 crore tree plantation programme at Malumghat Reserved Forest. He also visited the grave of July Shaheed Wasim Akram in Pekua upazila.

The prime minister also laid the foundation stones of the newly formed Pekua municipality and the newly formed Matamuhuri upazila.

After the Chakaria public rally, the prime minister will attend a gathering of dignitaries at Long Beach Hotel in Cox's Bazar before returning to Dhaka by air.

This is Tarique Rahman's first visit to Cox's Bazar since he returned to the country on December 25 last year after living in London for over a decade and a half, and after being sworn in as prime minister following the BNP's landslide victory in the February 12 election.
