The government has increased the prices of all types of fuel in the domestic market, aligning them with global rates.

The new prices came into effect on Sunday following an announcement late Saturday ( April 18) by the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources.

Under the revised rates, diesel now sells at Tk 115 per litre, up by Tk 15; kerosene at Tk 130, up by Tk 18; petrol at Tk 135, up by Tk 19; and octane at Tk 140, marking a Tk 20 increase.

Following the announcement, long queues formed at filling stations across the country, particularly in Dhaka, as motorists rushed to refuel before the new prices took effect. In areas such as Tejgaon and Mohakhali, several stations reported running out of fuel, temporarily halting sales.

Consumers expressed concern over whether the price hike would resolve ongoing supply shortages, as many endured hours of waiting at pumps. They called for stricter government monitoring to prevent artificial shortages and ensure a stable supply.

Authorities, however, expect the revised pricing to help stabilise the market and reduce disruptions in fuel distribution.
