Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has said that it is very much important of familiarising the younger generation with the spirit and history of Bangladesh’s Liberation War.

He made the remarks during a meeting with members of the National Freedom Fighters Council, Bangladesh Freedom Fighters Welfare Trust, and Bangladesh Freedom Fighters’ Parliament at the state guesthouse Jamuna on Sunday evening (February 8).

"The struggle was not a one-time event and that future challenges may require the same courage, adding that the country’s great independence movement should serve as a source of inspiration for generations to come," he said.

Highlighting the initiatives taken since assuming responsibility, Dr. Yunus said the government’s priority has been to identify true freedom fighters and distinguish them from impostors. He described transmitting the history of the Liberation War to the youth as a “sacred duty” essential for the country’s long-term welfare.

Veteran freedom fighters praised the adviser’s efforts, noting that previous government policies had undermined their status, which is now being restored. They also underscored the importance of voting ‘yes’ in the upcoming constitutional referendum to safeguard the nation’s future.

Dr. Yunus concluded that regardless of his position in government, it is his responsibility as a citizen to preserve the memory of the Liberation War and pass it on to the new generation.

The meeting was also attended by Adviser for Liberation War Affairs Faruk-e-Azam and several veteran freedom fighters.
