A day after assuming office, Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Khondkar Misbah Ul Azim paid tribute to the members of the Armed Forces who laid down their lives during Bangladesh's Liberation War by placing a wreath at Shikha Anirban in Dhaka Cantonment.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the newly appointed Navy chief offered floral tributes on Friday (July 24) before signing the visitors' book at the memorial.

Later, upon arriving at Naval Headquarters, Vice Admiral Misbah was received by the Principal Staff Officers. A smartly turned-out naval contingent accorded him a guard of honour, which he inspected before taking the salute.

Senior naval officers, including the Principal Staff Officers of Naval Headquarters, were present during the ceremony.

In a statement, ISPR said the new Navy chief is committed to transforming the Bangladesh Navy into a modern blue-water force, in line with the directives of Prime Minister Tarek Rahman, to strengthen maritime security and safeguard the country's blue economy.

The statement added that the transformation plan includes the induction of modern frigates, submarines, advanced sonar systems, radar technology and other state-of-the-art capabilities to enhance Bangladesh's maritime sovereignty and operational readiness.

Vice Admiral Khondkar Misbah Ul Azim officially assumed command as the Chief of Naval Staff on July 23.
