A new platform named ‘Mancha 71’ has been formed to prevent distortion of Bangladesh’s Liberation War history and uphold the honour of freedom fighters. The group made its debut Monday evening through a press release signed by Mancha 71 coordinator Professor Abdullah Al Mahmud (Bir Protik) and freedom fighter Z I Khan Panna.

The platform expressed concern over attempts to erase and distort the Liberation War’s history, particularly referencing the controversial ‘July Manifesto’ issued after the August coup. They described the Liberation War as a symbol of Bengali identity and sacrifice, emphasizing that any attempts to undermine it would be unacceptable.

Mancha 71 presented five demands:

Reject any anti-Liberation War statements in the July Manifesto.

Preserve the history and spirit of the Liberation War in the constitution.

Do not hold all freedom fighters responsible for political failures.

File sedition cases against those distorting the Liberation War history or insulting freedom fighters.

The interim government led by Dr. Yunus must clearly clarify its stance on the Liberation War.

The platform warned of public protests in Dhaka if their demands are ignored and stated readiness to risk their lives to protect the nation’s history.

Professor Abdullah Al Mahmud said the movement is non-political and dedicated solely to preserving the truth of the Liberation War and honoring the martyrs’ sacrifices.
