New political platform NPA launched
A new political platform named Network for People’s Action, NPA, has been launched with a section of leaders who resigned from the National Citizen Party, NCP, and various activists associated with leftist organisations.
The platform was formally launched at the Central Shaheed Minar at 4:00 pm on Friday, where a 101-member committee along with three spokespersons was announced.
The spokespersons are writer Ferdous Ara Rumi, former NCP central committee member Mainul Islam Tuhin, also known as Tuhin Khan, and former student leader of Student Union and former coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Nazifa Jannat.
Among other members are former NCP central committee members Anik Roy and Alik Mri, writer and researcher Mir Huzaifa Al Mamduh, former Student Union president Baki Billah, Dhaka University unit president Meghmollar Bosu, general secretary Main Ahmed and others.
The organisers said young activists, student leaders and followers of different religions and ethnic communities would join the platform.
They said the existing power-centric governance structure in Bangladesh had turned state institutions into tools of the ruling class, using power as a means of wealth accumulation. As a result, institutions meant to protect the people had turned into exploiters. They aim to transform state institutions into service-oriented structures that safeguard people’s rights by ensuring their independence from government and ruling party control and making them accountable to the public.
