New president to take oath at Bangabhaban on August 21

The newly elected president will take oath at Bangabhaban on Friday, August 21, in the evening. Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni confirmed the information today, August 19.

According to sources, the special ceremony is scheduled to be held at the Darbar Hall at 7:30pm on Friday and is expected to be attended by distinguished guests, including the acting president, the Prime Minister, cabinet members, politicians, members of parliament, Supreme Court judges, senior civil and military officials, diplomats and invited guests.

Voting for the new president is scheduled to take place at the Jatiya Sangsad tomorrow, August 20.

According to the Constitution, the president is the highest office holder in the country and the supreme commander of the armed forces.

After taking oath, the new president will formally assume his constitutional responsibilities and will reside at Bangabhaban as head of state for the new term.

Previously, on July 24, President Md Sahabuddin resigned from office citing "physical and mental" illness.

Following this, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed assumed the charge of acting president.
