Newly appointed five city administrators meet PM
The newly appointed administrators of Barishal, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Rangpur and Cumilla city corporations have met with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Prime Minister's Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon said the meeting took place at the Prime Minister's Office in the Parliament Building on Saturday afternoon.
State Minister for Local Government and Rural Development Mir Shah Alam was present at the time.
Earlier on the same day, the government appointed five BNP leaders as administrators to Barishal, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Rangpur and Cumilla city corporations through an order from the Local Government Ministry.
According to the notification, they will serve as administrators until the corporations are formed or until further orders.
Bilkis Akhtar Jahan Shirin has been appointed administrator of Barishal City Corporation. She serves as BNP's Barishal divisional organising secretary.
Mahfuzur Rahman has been given responsibility for Rajshahi City. He has been serving as general secretary of Metropolitan BNP.
Mymensingh South District BNP Member Secretary Rukunuzzaman Rokon has been given charge of the city corporation there.
Mahfuz Un Nabi Chowdhury has been made administrator of Rangpur City Corporation; he is member secretary of Rangpur Metropolitan BNP.
Cumilla Metropolitan BNP General Secretary Yusuf Mollah has become administrator of the city corporation there.
Earlier on February 23, government party leaders were appointed as administrators to six city corporations including Dhaka. After the interim government took charge on August 8, 2024, mayors of 12 city corporations were removed and administrators were appointed on August 19.
