Newly appointed permanent representative to UN meets Information Minister

Dr. Irene Zubaida Khan, the newly appointed Permanent Representative and Ambassador of Bangladesh to the United Nations, held a courtesy meeting with Minister of Information and Broadcasting Zahir Uddin Swapon on Thursday afternoon. The meeting took place at the minister’s office in the Secretariat.

During the discussion, the two sides underscored the importance of showcasing Bangladesh’s positive image on the international stage and effectively presenting the nation’s various achievements and official stances to the global community. They specifically deliberated on the necessity of highlighting Bangladesh’s activities more effectively through international media outlets.

The meeting also addressed the upcoming participation of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in the United Nations General Assembly session. The discussions encompassed various aspects of media management for the visit, along with strategies to ensure the Prime Minister’s programs, national priorities, and the country’s international position are adequately covered by the global press.

Dr. Irene Zubaida Khan sought the cooperation of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to bolster Bangladesh’s positive perception abroad, to which Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon provided assurances of full support. Both parties reiterated the need to highlight the nation’s progress and initiatives in the international arena with greater efficacy.

Furthermore, the minister and the ambassador identified the spread of propaganda and misinformation on social media and various digital platforms as a significant challenge. To address this, they held a detailed discussion on the urgency of providing prompt and reliable information, implementing effective communication strategies, and strengthening Bangladesh’s presence across digital media.
