Newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul enters Bangabhaban

Newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has entered Bangabhaban to take oath as the President. His motorcade entered the presidential palace at around 5:50pm on Friday, August 21.

The oath-taking ceremony for Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir as the 23rd President of the country is scheduled to be held at the Durbar Hall of Bangabhaban today. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, along with other state dignitaries, will attend the ceremony.

Invited guests have begun arriving at Bangabhaban ahead of the oath ceremony. Security measures have been tightened in and around Bangabhaban for the occasion.

Cabinet Division officials said more than 1,200 guests have been invited to the oath ceremony. Acting Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Kayser Kamal will administer the oath to the newly elected President. Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani will conduct the programme.

According to the invitation sent by the Cabinet Division, the President will enter the Durbar Hall at 7:30pm. After the national anthem and recitation from the Quran, the Speaker will administer the oath.

Earlier, on July 24, President Md Sahabuddin, who was elected during the Awami League government's tenure, resigned from office. Following his resignation, the process of electing a new President began as per the Constitution.

In the presidential election held on Thursday, BNP candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was elected after securing 255 votes out of 349 MPs.
