NICAR approves Bogura City Corporation, formation of five new upazilas

The National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganisation (NICAR) has approved proposals to establish Bogura City Corporation and create five new upazilas across the country.

The approval came at the 120th meeting of NICAR held at the Cabinet Division in the Secretariat on Thursday (May 7), chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

According to a statement shared on the Prime Minister’s Office Facebook page, the meeting endorsed the formation of the new city corporation alongside the restructuring of several existing upazilas.

The newly approved upazilas are Mokamtola, to be carved out of Shibganj upazila in Bogura; Matamuhuri from Chakaria upazila in Cox’s Bazar; Ruhia and Bhulli from Thakurgaon Sadar upazila; and Chandraganj from Lakshmipur Sadar upazila.

Officials said the Local Government Division had earlier submitted detailed proposals for the creation of Bogura City Corporation and the new upazilas for consideration at the NICAR meeting.
