A total of nine people have died from confirmed measles and suspected measles symptoms across the country in the last 24 hours, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has said. Among them, three deaths have been confirmed as measles-related, while the remaining six have been recorded as suspected measles deaths.

The information was provided by the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the DGHS on Tuesday afternoon, April 28.

According to the DGHS, since March 15, a total of 47 people have died from confirmed measles and 226 from suspected measles during the ongoing situation.

In the same period, 4,856 people have been confirmed infected with measles, while the number of suspected cases has reached 34,662.

According to health directorate figures, 23,348 people have been hospitalised during this period, and 19,991 have recovered and been discharged.

Experts have said that due to the rapid spread of infection, intensifying vaccination drives and public awareness campaigns is crucial to bring the situation under control.

The health directorate said the situation is being monitored, and necessary medical and preventive measures are being taken.
