Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam has claimed that no additional fare is being charged anywhere from homebound passengers on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr.

He said this while inspecting the capital's Mohakhali Bus Terminal on Thursday (March 19) afternoon.

Sheikh Rabiul Alam said that the illegal bus counters set up here and there are creating chaos on the roads. He further said, 'To reduce public suffering, the process of setting up these counters here and there will be completely stopped in the future.'

In addition, the number of mobile courts has already been increased to prevent the collection of additional fares and restore order on the roads.

Stating that the government is taking a strict stance to ensure smooth Eid journey, the minister said, 'On the occasion of Eid, the leave of all officials and employees of the Road, Bridges and Shipping Ministry has been canceled. This decision has been taken to ensure service at the field level.'

He also said that passengers are being transported in transports as per the government fare. However, there have been complaints of additional fare being charged in some cases while picking up passengers from the road after leaving the bus. The ministry is conducting a drive on these issues and immediate action is being taken if any deviation is reported.

The minister visited various counters of the bus terminal and spoke to ordinary passengers to get to know the overall situation of the Eid journey. Senior officials of the ministry and leaders of the Transport Owners Association were present at the time.
