No additional fares can be charged on buses during Eid: Owners' Association
Bangladesh Road Transport Owners' Association has issued strict instructions not to charge additional fares on buses to make the journey of homebound passengers comfortable on the occasion of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
It has been decided to implement this instruction in all district units of the country.
The decision was taken at the first meeting of the executive council held at the association's office in Paribagh in the capital on Saturday (May 2).
The meeting was chaired by President Kafil Uddin Ahmed and conducted by Secretary General Md. Saiful Alam.
It was informed in the meeting that under no circumstances can additional money be charged from passengers beyond the fare fixed by the government.
Several other important decisions related to the transport sector were taken in the meeting—
Formation of sub-committee: A sub-committee will be formed to ensure the orderly movement of trucks, covered vans and tankers. This committee will identify the causes of traffic jams and accidents and recommend solutions.
Tax and expenditure Issues: Owners' anger over the doubling of AIT (presumptive income tax) and the increase in the prices of parts including tires and tubes was highlighted. Demands were made for tax reduction and reduction in customs duties.
Organizational strengthening: Initiatives have been taken to bring all the legitimate transport organizations of the country under its umbrella to make the association more dynamic.
Central leaders including Executive President MA Baten, Senior Vice President Morshedul Alam Kaderi, Additional Secretary General ASM Ahmed Khokon were also present in the meeting.
