No educational qualification requirement for participating in local govt polls: State Minister

Election Commission (EC) will decide whether MPO-listed teachers can participate in local government elections, said State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam.

The state minister said, "The Election Commission formulates the election rules and the qualifications and disqualifications of candidates. Now the Election Commission will decide, taking into consideration our laws, the policies of the Ministry of Education and everything else, whether MPO-listed teachers can participate in the elections or not."

He said these things while speaking with journalists at the Secretariat today.

Additionally, the state minister said there is no mandatory educational qualification requirement for candidates to participate in local government elections.

Earlier, Swiss Ambassador to Bangladesh Reto Renggli paid a courtesy call on Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Abdul Moyeen Khan at the Secretariat. The State Minister for Local Government was also present there.
