No fuel shortage, hoarding is real concern: Energy Minister
The tendency to hoard has become a greater cause for concern than actual fuel shortages, said Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku.
He made the remarks during the question-and-answer session on the fourth day of the first session of the 13th National Parliament on Monday, March 30.
The minister said that more fuel was being supplied to pumps in March 2026 compared to March 2025. According to him, "The tendency to hoard is now more alarming than fuel shortages."
He also noted that despite rising international fuel prices, adjustments have not yet been made considering the interests of the people.
On the issue of fuel subsidies, the minister said that between March and June of the current year, the government will need to provide Tk 15,409 crore in diesel subsidies and Tk 636 crore in octane subsidies.
