There is currently no fuel shortage in Bangladesh, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam has said. She made the remark in response to a supplementary question from Jamaat-e-Islami MP Mir Ahmed Bin Qasim in parliament on Monday, March 30.

The state minister said the government is taking coordinated measures to maintain uninterrupted fuel supply in the context of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. At the same time, ensuring the safety of Bangladeshi citizens abroad remains a priority for the government.

She said the government is working to diversify fuel import sources beyond the Middle East and exploring alternative supply channels to ensure stable fuel supply in the country.

Shama Obaed Islam further stated that several meetings have been held with relevant authorities under the leadership of the Prime Minister, where the issue of securing fuel supply from various sources has been considered with importance.

The state minister said ensuring the safety of Bangladeshis abroad, particularly expatriates working in the Middle East, is the government's top priority.

In this context, she noted that 186 Bangladeshis have been safely brought back from Tehran, Iran, through chartered flights with government assistance.
