The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has stated that no firearms or bullets were used by police to disperse protesters in and around the state guest house Jamuna.

The information was disclosed in a press release signed by Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Muhammad Talebur Rahman on Friday (February 6).

According to the press release, all forms of assemblies, processions, mass gatherings and demonstrations are prohibited in and around the state guest house Jamuna in the interest of maintaining public order and ensuring the security of the Chief Adviser. Despite the ban, multiple groups attempted to advance toward Jamuna on Friday, pressing various demands and breaching police barricades, the statement said.

According to the press release, police used tear gas shells and sound grenades to disperse the protesters in order to bring the situation under control.

The DMP said it has come to its attention that certain individuals are spreading false and misleading information on social media with the intention of diverting the incident in a different direction.

The statement further said that police carried out their duties in a fully lawful manner, and no firearms or live bullets were used during the operation. Several police personnel were injured in the incident, while a number of protesters also sustained minor injuries.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police has urged the public not to be misled by any form of misinformation or propaganda regarding the incident.
